12 STRINGS, TIMELESS INSPIRATION: ADAM SIMONS ON THE GUILD F-412 STANDARD
Few sounds are as instantly recognizable as a great 12-string acoustic. The shimmer of doubled strings and the rich harmonic depth have defined countless recordings for decades. When singer-songwriter Adam Simons recently spent time with the Guild F-412 Standard, he found a guitar that captured that classic spirit while inspiring new creative ideas.
With his new release, the Dylan EP, Simons has been exploring layered acoustic textures in the studio—making the F-412 Standard a natural addition to his creative process.
What makes the F-412 Standard such a powerful 12-string platform?
"The resonance, feel, and overall vibe of this guitar is exactly what I’m looking for from a 12-string. Playing it immediately takes me back to the sound of so many of my favorite records from the past, and it elevates so many types of guitar playing." Guild's long legacy of 12-string design is part of what gives the F-412 its unmistakable voice—bold, resonant, and full of harmonic character.
What do you notice about the construction of the F-412 Standard compared to other 12-strings you’ve played?
"The 412 feels like a refined take on the 12-string while still holding on to that classic, timeless design and feel that I’m looking for. It responds so well and fits in any live setting." The result is a guitar that feels both familiar and refined, delivering the powerful projection players expect from a Guild jumbo 12-string.
How has the F-412 Standard inspired you?
"Playing this guitar takes me somewhere totally new. The harmonic quality and resonance feels like something out of the 1970s, and it’s already found its way into some of my new songs." The layered harmonic character of a 12-string often leads players toward new ideas—and for Simons, the F-412 has already begun shaping future material.
In what applications does the F-412 Standard shine?
"I've loved using it in a studio environment—tracking new songs and layering the 12-string with other guitar parts. It cuts through a mix and adds a frequency range other guitars don’t have. The higher strings give a "shine" that feels so classic and reminiscent of Laurel Canyon." That shimmering top-end presence makes the F-412 especially powerful for recording, where its octave strings add clarity and dimension to arrangements.
What makes Guild’s approach to 12-string design unique?
"Guild has always been who I think of when I picture a 12-string. The craftsmanship on these models is excellent and really shines through. I love the nod to classic Guild models with this F-412—it feels right at home in my home studio and touring arsenal."
Whether layering textures in the studio or filling a room with rich acoustic resonance, the Guild F-412 Standard continues Guild’s long tradition of iconic 12-string design. For Adam Simons, it’s already becoming an essential part of his songwriting toolkit.
