Wild Flag Tames Coachella Crowd

When Wild Flag took the Outdoor Stage at Coachella Sunday afternoon, it was the hottest hour of the festival and the hard-partying fans seemed to be in need of a kick in the tail.

Credit the all-female quartet for awakening the masses.

Clad in no other colors aside from black and red, delivered in spades, Carrie Brownstein and Mary Timony’s shredding guitars, Janet Weiss’ annihilation of her drum kit and Rebecca Cole’s keys kept the party going.

Brownstein – formerly of Sleater-Kinney – made a point to thank the audience at the for watching her hit IFC series Portlandia, but this show was about punk and rock music.

Fans ate up every one of Brownstein’s high kicks as they blazed through a set rife with post-punky Wild Flag cuts, including “Glass Tambourine,” “Racehorse” and “Romance.”
