Def Leppard’s Phil Collen Talks Rock Of Ages

Phil Collen of Def Leppard and Manraze appeared on the latest episode of AOL Music’s In House series, which welcomes artists to the outfit’s offices to chat with staffers and perform.

One main topic of conversation was the musical Rock of Ages, which came out this week.

Def Leppard’s is front and center in the movie, considering Tom Cruise (playing aging rock legend Stacee Jaxx) handles all of his vocal parts, including “Pour Some Sugar on Me.”

The fact that Cruise nailed the Def Lep classic impressed Collen.

“We were privileged to actually be on the set and hear an unfinished version of it that he was lip-syncing to,” Collen said.  “We were blown away because you know, it’s Tom Cruise, right? All of a sudden he’s singing this song that you’re so familiar with, and he did all of the backing vocals and lead vocals… It’s all him.

“We were very impressed. He killed it.  It was great.”

Collen is going to be heading out on the “Rock of Ages” tour June 20 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
