Now Hiring: Finishing Department Manager

We have an open position at the Guild factory in Oxnard, CA! The Finishing Department Manager is responsible for leading the Finishing Department (staff and functions) in the manufacturing of Guild guitars. This position includes leading the Finishing Staff and processes including preparation, grain fill, sealer, level sanding and paint processes. This Manager will also develop, train and sustain a staff capable of providing a high-quality finish in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Finish Department Manager will promote a positive environment and maintain all OSHA, AQMD and VCAPCD requirements & obligations.


  • Ability to track throughput of finished instruments and maintain a 1st time pass rate in the 90% range
  • Able to troubleshoot and diagnose defects through root cause analysis and employ/institute corrective actions
  • Knowledge of finishing materials and methods used in the process of acoustic/electric guitars and instruments
  • Ability to apply and teach best methods and practices to the staff members
  • Knowledge of how to maintain and support a safe and effective environment using best methods and practices
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to address personnel fairly and equitably
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent time management, including setting schedule work, provide output capacities concerning both labor and process


Primary Responsibilities:

  • General Staff Management:
    • Instruction & supervision of work — produce constructive feedback
    • Instruction & training to detect defects & flaws
    • Maintain desired level of output/yields
    • Performance evaluations
    • Reinforce and maintain factory cleanliness, organization and a safe working environment
  • Leadership:
    • Improve and maintain the highest level of quality through auditing, training, constructive criticism
    • Communicate issues (i.e., flaws in materials, out of spec conditions, defects in workmanship) with the team and head up problem solving
    • Share capacity constraints to management in a timely manner and provide recommendations for improvement
    • Communicate process & productivity improvements and ideas to management
  • Processes:
    • Maintain accurate inventories and report all scrap
    • Inspect finished units and work in-process prior to final assembly
    • Track all rework, investigate root cause(s) and recommend corrective actions
    • Maintain records of pass/fail yields as required from management
