First introduced in 1954, the F-50 jumbo model was the king of the original Guild flat-top acoustic line. Its bold, unique styling and rich, powerful voice made it an instant classic, and it became one of our most beloved and enduring models.
This limited special run version of the F-50 model combines a solid high-grade Engelmann spruce top with solid Hawaiian koa back and sides to create a beautiful and complex guitar with a unique voice that is capable of being strong and powerful as well as delicate and sweet.
Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii) is a native North American tonewood that grows in western regions from British Columbia and Alberta Canada in the north to Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. Light in color with fine, tight grain, Engelmann spruce exhibits a warm, mellow tone with a strong overtone component that results in a sound that is richer and more complex than what can be obtained with most Sitka tops. These attributes have led some to describe its sound as “mature” and “refined”.
Koa (Acacia koa) is a beautiful tropical hardwood that grows only in Hawaii. Treasured by the Hawaiian people for centuries, koa has been used to build everything from canoes and paddles to furniture and, of course, ukuleles. With a rich golden brown color that ranges from light to dark, and strong, beautiful grain patterns, it looks as exotic as its native islands. As a tonewood, koa exhibits strong midrange content with sparkling highs and warm, focused lows. Its striking looks and beautiful voice have made it one of the most sought after guitar tonewoods in the world.
When these two exceptional tonewoods combine with the F-50’s unique dimensions, it results in one of the most stunning Guild jumbo acoustic guitars to date. Refined, delicate, strong and balanced—these are just a few of the words that describe the many sonic nuances of this guitar. But don’t take our word for it; visit a participating Guild dealer today and test drive one for yourself.
Other special features of this model include ivoroid body, neck, and headstock binding; koa headcap with pearl "Vintage G" logo, ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays and special “G” inlay at the 12th fret, ebony bridge with bone “Parisian eye” bridge pins, abalone rosette, custom gold Gotoh® open-back tuners with carved buttons, and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
